I chose to put in a 3D element to the mask as I knew I wanted to use lots of shadows and dramatic lighting for the final image. So I decided to develop the eyes and matchsticks using card cutouts to elaborate on the theme of tiredness. I wanted the style of the mask to be sketchy and almost tired looking and rushed. So the scribbled lines were made as rushed as possible, whilst trying to avoid an unfinished or lazy look.
The final mask mas made using a pillow case. As well as in keeping with the theme of sleep, it made it easier to add texture and depth in the final image.
