OUIL503- Brush Design- Brief 10

Start Date: 30/01/2017

Deadline: 06/02/2017

Brief

'Create a crayon replica brush to be used in Photoshop both on Mac and on iPad Pro.'

Research
This brush presented more challenges that I first expected as I wasn't able to save the brushes under the same file type as I normally would as the Photoshop Sketch app could not have it. This was especially annoying as I only realised this once I had finished the brush, lucky I hadn't sent it to the client before. This meant I had literally 1 day to replicate the brush under a simplified file type, which is harder than it sounds as I was really limited in the amount of tools I could use.

The research consisted of experimenting with crayons, considering depth of texture and pressure put on the actual crayon to create a heavier flow.

Development
I then went on to develop the brush, starting out with a hand drawn vignette and working to moving digitally then. I thought the brush would be easy to produce as it would be quite similar to an oil brush I had made previously, turns out I was wrong and the brush ended up being closer to a pencil brush I have already made.

Outcome

I'm quite pleased with the brush overall, however, the way that I worked on this brief could have been handled better. I probably should have researched the file types prior to diving in and creating something that was pretty much useless afterwards. Luckily I was able to finish the brush on time and the client was none the wiser.

Final outcome below.
