OUIL404- Visual Language- Shape and Texture

This evening I've been experimenting with texture within shape. I've really enjoyed making faces with unusual textures so far. The outcomes have been pretty weird but I like how they look.

Texture within shape can help create a real new depth to an image. Shapes with no texture can look really flat and boring if not done properly, but texture creates a really interesting image and it's definitely something I'll want to implement into my own practice.

For this work, I started creating textures and patterns to work with. I initially started to create textures with certain facial features in mind, but swiftly moved away from that as I feel that would have looked a bit to 'perfect', something I am wanting to move away from to experiment more.

I then went on to create random textures and patterns, without having anything particular in mind to do with them. Which worked really well and I really enjoyed playing around with it. I wanted to create faces which weren't 100% representational, and more figurative and structured whilst still being recognisable as a face. I then picked the textures which I though appropriate for each facial component.

I am really happy with the outcomes. It makes a difference for me to be messy with my work and really move past my work having to be perfect which I'm really enjoying. I will definitely be using more texture within my own work from now on.
